urgent attention for reasons ranging from flooding to the large-scale size of the developments. As Deputy O'Sullivan rightly said, if someone wants to build a house on those lands, the planning process is far more tedious than it is when seeking to swallow up hundreds

people are telling me that in the past week auctioneers have been inundated with people walking away from letting houses. That is another crisis in its own right. The HAP has not increased and people are finding it very difficult to make ends meet. They are paying
allow a vote of conscience on this. We all know what would happen tonight. TDs from across the House would support it. Why? It is the right thing to do. It supports the Tánaiste's "anything that can be done" call to action. The Social Democrats' motion calls

People in this country have gone out of their way to help people from Ukraine and it was the right thing to do. People opened up their houses and provided people with rooms, which was fantastic. However, a minority of people have come in, claiming they are from
During this debate we have, quite rightly, heard references from both sides of the House to preserving the international world order and the rule of law. However, a Deputy from the Social Democrats - I do not know whether he was enunciating Social Democrat policy - said there should

disaster we see unfolding in Gaza.
The heinous attacks launched by Hamas against Israel on 7 October were reprehensible. We have consistently and rightly condemned the terrorist organisation that is Hamas prior to and since October 7. Hamas has brought nothing but death and destruction to Palestine … welcome the ongoing US efforts to end the war in Gaza. We hope and, indeed, pray that Monday's announcement from the White House is a further step towards the peace that is so desperately needed. In particular, I welcome the sincere engagement of states in the wider
chases after the far right for votes. It did not work during the previous two elections last year. in fact, it backfired disastrously by centring and problematising the issue of immigration and taking pressure off the Government that has been responsible for the housing crisis, cost-of-living … universal, non-means tested payments, higher wages and universal public housing for all. We should be trying to lift the level of how we treat refugees, not drag it down. That is how we fight the far right, by addressing the poverty and inequality it exploits

which is Deputy Ahern's amendment. Others have come into the House in a less constructive way, such as Deputies Murphy and Coppinger and others. We would be having a debate here, and rightly so, as to why we lost 4,000 direct jobs in the airport … House here and directly to the DAA that the voluntary purchase scheme needs to be improved upon. There are people who have sold their homes under that scheme. It needs to be improved further. There are people, particularly on the western side, right on the airport campus, whose

As well as that, the reply to the parliamentary question also informed … sought a report from the Department on the Government's continued breach of children's rights. I hope that today the Minister will acknowledge this and provide an update to the House on the publication of the report.

children involved has gone from 15,000 to 22,000 children. How can people who write the laws of this country in this House break them outside the gates? The Taoiseach has accused the recent fuel protesters, the Irish men and Irish women fighting for their livelihoods … sabotage to have 22,000 children waiting for assessments of need. Their education, their future and their rights are being sabotaged. How can the lawmakers in the House be lawbreakers
That year, there was a similar motion which called for recognition of a housing emergency. It was rejected by the Fine Gael-Labour Government. At the time, when we were rightly saying it was an emergency, 3,607 homeless were people living in emergency accommodation. Ten years later … landlords, landowners, developers, vulture funds and banks can keep making profits.
I am not sure that the Government is even pretending that the housing crisis is a top priority anymore. Ten years ago, the then Government had a target of ending long-term homelessness by 2016. Then
relation to this issue, too.
I am pleased to have the opportunity to commend budget 2026 to the House. I believe it is a budget that strikes the right balance between meeting the economic challenges facing our country, protecting our economy and jobs, delivering more homes, improving access … infrastructural deficits, including using windfall receipts; building up our long-term savings funds - there used to be a time when everyone in this House wanted to spend the rainy day funds, but that would have been imprudent and it is important that we build up those saving funds
Housing, Local Government and Heritage may be waiting on the research to be received from the Electoral Commission on postal voting. However, I hope he will see the need here today and take the first step towards ensuring that at least family carers will have a right … caring for.
I hope the Minister will support this Bill to progress through the House. The Government must recognise the need not just for postal voting but to allow family carers the right to engage in politics by using a postal vote. It is a small but necessary
first thing I will do is read that EU report. Deputy Kelly was right to bring it to the attention of the House. We want to be leaders in terms of the structures we have here. We certainly do not want to be laggards. This matter sounds concerning … reverts to him. Without commenting on any specific case, all whistleblowers are, under law, expected to have all of the protections that are right in the context of whistleblowing. fact, a short period of time. Just like in previous decades, there are those out there who would row back on gay rights, ban Pride like they did in Orbán's Hungary - an EU country - and drag this State back to the Dark Ages. We must … legislative agenda here in the Dáil. However, it cannot and should not be left to this House to speak up for Pride and for gay rights. Pride parades in every county, city and town should be supported. As a straight woman, Pride is a movement that is close
survive the private market. I understand that this is a complex challenge and that if you increase the housing threshold you might add to the already overwhelmed list, but right now what option do I have for a working family who are slightly above the threshold … emergency accommodation 60 km away - away from their jobs, away from the schools and away from the community. As they are above the housing threshold, there is no hope.

right to access true and accurate information. Sinn Féin’s position is that children have a right to be online, and all of us in the House need to legislate to make it safe for them to do so. We have legislated to make the offline world safe … know that self-regulation is no regulation. We cannot have companies that generate massive profits for themselves, as is their right, but be free from appropriate oversight and governance. They must be responsible for what is on their platforms and for who can access their platforms
