late. White diesel now costs 36 cent more per litre than it did at the start of the illegal US and Israeli war. Green diesel is through the roof, heating oil has almost doubled and petrol is substantially higher. There is nothing in the package for PAYE workers

diesel that the Government has reduced prices by, and 27 cent on petrol. If the fuel package scheme is taken along with the green diesel reduction, you are up to 20-plus
going beyond what was allowed under the energy tax directive to reduce it further. We also took the decision to reduce petrol and green diesel costs. Yesterday, we announced two significant support schemes for crucial sectors of the economy - farmers, fishers, farm contractors and hauliers. I certainly heard
complete removal of excise duty, including carbon tax, on home heating oil, and a maximum cut to excise duty, including carbon tax, on green diesel. In the medium to long term, we will talk about renewable energies. The Government is going to do what it always does, namely
cent per litre last evening. Sinn Féin voted against a 15 cent reduction in petrol and a 3 cent per litre reduction in green diesel, and also voted against the NORA levy, or will, in terms of its commitment
ongoing basis, but they are too expensive for people who have no option but to use their cars to get to work. Green diesel costs nearly 50% more.
The most bizarre aspect of the financial resolutions that have come before the House is the Government's commitment
affordable and hold it there. Match that reduction with petrol. Remove carbon tax from home heating oil and do the same on green diesel to support our farmers and contractors
which is 40 cent less than here. There is a difference of €200 in the price of 500 litres of kerosene, while green diesel - it is red in the North - is €200 cheaper in the North. Let us concentrate on our own game.
I welcome what has been
further 10 cent (including VAT) bringing the total reduction to 27 cent (including VAT);
— a reduction in excise on marked gas oil (green diesel) by a further 2.4 cent bringing the total to 7.4 cent (including VAT);
— a deferral of the planned increase in carbon tax, scheduled
price of petrol, bringing the total reduction to 27 cent per litre; and a reduction of 2.4 cent in marked gas oil, green diesel. A comprehensive new €100 million fuel subsidy scheme to assist farmers, agricultural contractors and fishers across unprecedented increases in fuel has also been confirmed
machinery. Will he tell me where I will get a 1,000 horsepower harvester that will cut silage but does not use diesel? Will he tell me where I will get a triple mower that will mow the grass? Will he tell me where I will … tractor to put in front of a fusion baler and do the work that has be done in three weeks without burning green diesel? Will he tell me about culture then? Will he tell me that they have some alternative? The Minister is from an area where they
what it is legally possible to do to excise duty. This week, the Government took measures on excise duty, fuel allowance and the diesel rebate. Some members of the Opposition are asking me to reduce the non-carbon excise element of home heating oil, which does not exist … directive. There is a limit - I am just being honest - to how much we can do in relation to the excise duty on green diesel. However, farmers will benefit from the reduction we made and the pause of the National Oil Reserves Agency, NORA, levy. The total benefit
happened this week. Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael TDs voted against Sinn Féin proposals that would have substantially cut the cost of petrol, diesel and home heating oil. Instead they brought in measures that fall far short. Now we are arriving with a 2 cent … relief; it is downright insulting. It is the same for farmers who are already under huge pressure facing soaring costs for green diesel and fertiliser. The Government's response does not even come close to recognising the scale of the challenge they face. What is most telling
cannot qualify for the Government's package.
For everyone in this country, the Government would cap the fuel prices at €1.70 for white diesel. That would mean it would not have had to put the package in place for hauliers and everyone else in this country. It would … That makes for a stable economy.
I cannot understand why the Government cannot look at this. It can do the same with green diesel for everyone in the agricultural sector and whatever sector uses it. It can do the same with kerosene, which covers all the packages that
moment? They have told me that they are in a dire situation. Some boats have stopped fishing due to the price of diesel. A 700 horsepower trawler towing for whitefish and prawns burns 3,000 litres during the course of a few days. That could cost … fuel support to farmers and agricultural contractors for another five months.
Let nobody underestimate the situation facing agricultural contractors. When the price of green diesel is heading above €1.70 per litre, the sums simply stop adding up. These contractors are not operating machinery for recreation. They are cutting
farm contractors of Ireland issued a very strong statement tonight. The Government has done nothing for them or for the farmers. The green diesel is a shocking price today. It was 90 cent, roughly, before Christmas last year … regressive. It is not a policy and I hope it will not be a policy. It should be got rid of. The Greens are well gone out of Government at last.
Mar fhocal scoir, I also brought forward a motion, along with my rural Independent colleagues
month increase ever recorded;
— kerosene is the main heating fuel for 700,000 households across the country;
— the prices of petrol and diesel have exponentially increased in recent weeks, putting huge pressure on commuters as well as the transport and agricultural sectors;
— households in Ireland pay €360 more … work; and
— increase the rebate scheme for the transport sector, to cover unsustainable increases in fuel costs, and introduce a rebate scheme for green diesel that can be availed of by agricultural contractors and others who use that fuel.
There is something in the air at present
available to all those who would be entitled to it, if it were not for this clause that is preventing that. Action on green diesel for construction vehicles was promised back in May by the Taoiseach and Tánaiste but nothing has been done since. Words do not mean
gone up from somewhere between €700 and €800 last year.
Day after day, we are begging the Government to do something on green diesel for the construction sector. The Taoiseach promised it last May. The Tánaiste promised it as well. The Minister, Deputy Heydon, said the Government
week, the same meagre offering it made to our pensioners.
Our farmers, the closest thing we have to heavy industry, got nothing on green diesel or rebate allocation in 2027, which is €61 million down on the current expenditure. Are we to trust the Government to protect
million in much-needed support in farmers' pockets in response to the significant rise in the cost of critical inputs, such as green diesel and fertiliser. This will come through an extension of the fuel income support scheme for a further five months and €46.1 million to provide
today, we are going suspend this and that. The Government is trying to take the pressure off itself.
I will touch on green diesel. Last year, it cost 90 cent per litre. I filled one of our tractors the other day. It cost me €436 to fill
have to honour those commitments and they are losing their shirts on them. The types of vehicles I mentioned for construction are guzzling green diesel and the price has gone up. The construction and all those things will not carry on. Last year, the average was 94 cent
original scheme. Obviously, that did not transpire.
These operators have the same costs. They face the same increases in the price of green diesel that people in the agricultural sector have, and many of them are small one- or two-machine-operated businesses. With the upcoming budget
want to talk about the price of green diesel. It has gone up to €1.60. There is no package in place for construction works vehicles, even though the Tánaiste and the Taoiseach promised it in early May and the Taoiseach reiterated it where the Minister is sitting
