largest support packages in the European Union (EU) per head capita which has included:
— excise duty reductions on diesel, petrol and 'green diesel';
— an enhanced Diesel Rebate Scheme for the entirety of 2026;
— the deferral of the 1st May Carbon Tax increase;
— the extension of the fuel allowance … carbon tax on farm diesel incurred by any person carrying on the trade of farming. In effect, this keeps carbon tax on marked diesel fixed at a rate of just 4 cent per litre for the farming sector. That is the rate that applied in 2012.

resolution; no more, no less. We in this House voted through a financial resolution to reduce the excise duty on diesel, petrol and green diesel. If there is a large gap between a financial resolution and the standard annual budget, you have to bring forward primary legislation
farmers or the construction sector in respect of machinery used as part of their operations that are fuelled by marked diesel oil or green diesel. They may be eligible for support under the RTSS for other vehicles in their fleets if the vehicles are used for the carriage
that any state has actually made to support businesses and households.
I refer to the reductions in excise on diesel, including agricultural and green diesel, and petrol, and also to the reduction to the National Oil Reserves Agency levy. All of these add up to a significant saving
more of that happening. The initial impact of this energy shock is on fuel, on the petrol and diesel pumps and on green diesel but in a number of months, it will move into gas prices and electricity prices.
There are 315,000 people who are in arrears
proceed with that madness, but that alone is not enough. The Government needs to reduce taxes on petrol, diesel, home heating oil and green diesel, and that can be done. We have the resources to do it. It is what needs to be done. This legislation
practical measures introduced by the Government on 12th April, included:
— further reductions in excise duty on diesel, petrol and marked gas oil (green diesel) in addition to a deferral of the planned increase in carbon tax, scheduled 1st May until October 2026; and
— reductions in excise duty, including … place;
— this package of supports is in addition to the measures announced in March, which included:
— an expansion of the diesel rebate scheme, backdating it to January, to help sectors of the economy most impacted by the rise of fuel costs; and
— an extension of the fuel allowance
amendment to the Government's proposal that would actually reduce the cost of petrol and diesel and end the carbon tax on green diesel and the same on home heating oil. That is the type of leadership and action people at the protests - ordinary people the length
breaks. I point out that excise duty on petrol is down by 36%. On diesel, it is down by 47.7%. On green diesel, it is down by 30.8%. Our overheads in northern Europe are not the equivalent of those in southern Europe. Wages, etc., differ
significant, with 27 cent off a litre of petrol, 32 cent off a litre of diesel and 7.4 cent off a litre of green diesel. We have extended the fuel allowance, expanded the diesel rebate scheme and reduced the NORA levy. We have also opened the fuel support … energy transmission. We recently achieved 8 GW of installed onshore renewable energy capacity, a major clean energy milestone on the path toward green energy efficiency and security.
In addition to this, budget 2026 allocated record funding for home retrofitting, including fully funded upgrades to the warmer homes scheme
fuels including home heating oil (kerosene used other than as a propellent), petrol and auto-diesel (heavy oil used as a propellent) and green diesel (marked gas oil) for the purpose of alleviating cost of living pressures; to provide for the extension of such reductions by order
reduce taxes on petrol, diesel and home heating oil. Cuts to taxes on diesel would have made up roughly of that, with green diesel, petrol and home heating oil cuts making up the majority of the rest. Our proposals would have made a real difference to my constituents
calls on the Government to:
— cancel the planned increase in fuel taxes on diesel of 32 cents, petrol of 27 cents, and green diesel of 2.4 cents per litre;
— remove the Value-Added Tax (VAT) from construction for a three-year period, as removing VAT from construction would
current fuel shocks. These include VAT inclusive reductions of up to 32 cent on diesel, 27 cent on petrol and 7.4 cent on green diesel, alongside a reduction in the NORA levy and the deferral of planned carbon tax increases until budget time. This is immediate, real relief
will not stop: the Government needs to cut taxes on diesel and petrol further. It needs to get the price of green diesel, to support our farmers and contractors, down. The Government needs to cut the taxes further and it needs to take away carbon tax from home
namely the 15 cent and 12 cent in respect of petrol and diesel and the 3 cent and 2.4 cent in respect of green diesel, not one cent was taken off the price of kerosene. There is a simple reason for that. It is because there
cent per litre for petrol, 20 cent per litre for auto diesel and 3 cent per litre for marked gas oil, or green diesel. In addition to the NORA levy reduction of 2 cent, this will provide for an overall reduction of 17 cent on petrol, 22 cent
decided against the maximum excise cut on petrol and diesel. It decided to knock only a lousy 5 cent off a litre of green diesel, with another insulting reduction in the price of heating oil, just 2 cent per litre. It has not gone unnoticed that those
until October. We need to see petrol and diesel made affordable. We need to see carbon tax wiped off home heating oil and green diesel, with not one single cent in increases in carbon tax. We need the energy credits, which the Government callously ripped from people, restored
cent on the price of a litre of diesel, 27 cent on the price of petrol and 7.4 cent on a litre of green diesel. This is alongside a reduction on the NORA levy. Crucially, we have also deferred the planned carbon tax increase, providing immediate breathing space
transport industry and other sectors. We see diesel and petrol prices have gone up from about €1.20 to €1.80 and more in places. Green diesel was 40 cent per litre and is now around €1.30 per litre. That is savage. We are paying more for electricity now than
further in relation to petrol and diesel than 15 cent. That is before we talk about the abject failure there has been on green diesel. I cannot get over the fact that kerosene has not been touched in any way, shape or form. We need an emergency budget
going back 30 years;
— petrol and diesel are on course to exceed their highest price on record this month; and
— the price of green diesel and other fuels are at unsustainably high levels;
condemns the Government for:
— not reconvening the Dáil last week and not introducing emergency supports
bringing the total reduction in diesel to 32 cent per litre, 27 cent per litre for petrol and 7.4 cent per litre for green diesel. We are also delaying the scheduled increase in carbon tax and introducing a support subsidy schemes aimed at key productive sectors
practical alternative to diesel for the operation of tractors, harvesters and other essential agricultural machinery, and that rapidly increasing marked gas oil, or green diesel, prices represent a direct threat to the viability of primary production and agricultural contracting;
