most European countries for the past 60, 70 or 80 years. Hundreds of thousands of people will continue to languish on hospital waiting lists and waiting for appointments.
Schoolchildren who should have a dental check-up in third or fourth class in primary school are instead having
commitment now to ending insourcing, a very controversial measure to try to reduce waiting lists, albeit it has reduced waiting lists in some hospitals. The other thing is that some people have made a lot of money out of the use of State assets and HSE-directly employed … eloquently been on the record calling this out and raising concerns, but the critical issue for those hospitals that have been relying on the NTPF money to reduce their waiting lists is what will happen to that funding.
There is a separate question with regard to Naas
lists at the hospital. I will raise one example, the case of a constituent, Margaret, who contacted me recently. Margaret saw a consultant in Beaumont hospital after her GP found two lumps in her breast. This consultant then referred her to the BreastCheck unit in Beaumont hospital … Beaumont hospital is to receive capital investment but there needs to be a sense of urgency for everyone like Margaret who face unacceptable waiting times. These delays have life-altering consequences.
By the HSE's figures there are currently 3,412 patients on the wait list for inpatient
private companies. It has been alleged in one case that a consultant, who created a private firm to read scans, used the hospital public waiting lists to funnel work through rostering into his own private company. It is an incredible situation and a major conflict of interest … private providers were owned or part-owned by two separate UHL employees. A third company was owned by a HSE employee with another hospital. This corroborates the allegations of this practice happening that have been made to me.
That report states that the Government was getting a handle
contract for the children's hospital. I have a daughter aged 16. She will never see the children's hospital. It is not only my daughter, but all the other people out there who have children who have been waiting for this hospital for years … This month, almost 800 people waited on trolleys in Cork's CUH and the Mercy hospital. Thirty thousand people are on waiting lists in both those hospitals. Three thousand people are waiting more than a year. Where is the elective hospital that was promised for Cork? If that
going to get two weeks' respite from the stress they are under? Do they think people who are in pain while on waiting lists for hospital procedures are going to get two weeks' respite from the suffering they are enduring? It is an insult for this government
derelict properties.
Too many people in Ireland continue to live in fear about accessing healthcare.
They fear rising health insurance costs, long waiting lists, overcrowded hospitals and the horror of being treated on a hospital trolley. The Social Democrats are proud to have led the way on Sláintecare
simply not enough.
The Minister of State said in his response that there has been a significant increase in waiting lists in Beaumont Hospital since last year. When we look at this, of those 40,000 on the waiting list, 2,500 have been waiting for more than
waiting time action plan, outsourced initiatives are in place for suitable patients waiting the longest on South Infirmary Victoria University Hospital’s outpatient waiting list.
To support timely access to orthopaedic services the hospital is running additional clinics at the weekends and evenings and where clinically suitable, patients … trying to ensure people get the best possible care in his constituency and hospital. I assure the Deputy that the HSE and South Infirmary Victoria University Hospital are committed to reducing waiting times for orthopaedic services. The delivery of high-quality patient-centred care is best practice
left disastrously injured by the operation. Today, she is in bad health and in pain. When Sarah sought help from the Mater hospital she waited for a year. She was told to go to Belfast to see her primary doctor but, of course, she has no doctor … between €45,000 and €50,000 and cannot afford it.
The NTPF told Sarah to just switch from the waiting list in the Mater hospital to Galway. The problem is that if she simply switches waiting lists and there is not an immediate operation, she will
briefly about a hospital in my constituency of Carlow-Kilkenny, St. Luke's Hospital. Will there be urgent investment in the hospital to improve waiting lists, bed accommodation numbers, accident and emergency overcrowding and waiting times at the hospital? They have escalated significantly recently. Additionally, we now have
hospital in Louth and 6,414 patients at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital Drogheda were waiting for an ultrasound.
What is important for patients is the implementation of the NTPF's national radiology diagnostic waiting list management protocol by all hospitals published in October 24. This will ensure … validated radiology diagnostic waiting list information will enable full analysis of diagnostic waiting times and provide a more completed understanding of how many patients are waiting, how long they are waiting and the specific services for which they are waiting. This is scheduled for quarter
need because people can access them in Cavan hospital, but despite this, hundreds of people are on waiting lists, and waiting times in Cavan hospital are unacceptable. I ask the Minister again for a feasibility study and for this to happen in Cavan and Monaghan hospital so that … travel to Cavan and Drogheda to be seen and not have such long waiting lists? Why are we being treated by this?
I am utterly convinced of the need to restore services to Monaghan hospital that were stripped away by previous Governments but the Minister can make
This Topical Issue arises from an ongoing situation in the Louth County Hospital in Dundalk. The ultrasound waiting lists have grown to around 7,000 at the moment. This fits into the parliamentary question Deputy Cullinane got an answer to. That was that we have waiting lists across … that capacity is currently down at least 50%. There are 7,000 currently on the waiting lists. In addition, there is no leadership in the ultrasound service at the Louth County Hospital from where the clinical specialist radiographer retired last month. It is all very concerning
lists across our health service, particularly for those trying to access a GP in their local area. There are also extensive waiting lists within community hospitals and in larger hospitals in Cork, Dublin, Galway and elsewhere. I am particularly interested in dentistry courses because I have come across … available.
Has the Minister been in communication with the Department of Health regarding the level of demand for these courses, given the waiting lists that we have in our health service

delays and management of waiting lists had on them. It should not be confined to any specific hospital but to CHI generally. Insofar as the module relating to waiting lists is concerned, Mr. Farrell makes clear that he includes the National Orthopaedic Hospital at Cappagh. His recommendation … second module, on spinal surgery, his recommendation is that a commission should inquire into the response by CHI to delays and management of waiting lists for spinal surgery or assessment across CHI. It should also inquire into how funds allocated on foot of the scoliosis and spina bifida
same time, there is the need for a surgical hub in Dundalk and for full utilisation of Louth County Hospital to reduce waiting lists, improve patient flow and deliver care closer to homes. Louth's population is growing. That is expected and planned for. It is not acceptable

I ask that someone at least explore that question, find
perpetuating the national scandal of 4,500 children without a home. We see a lack of childcare and school places, overcrowded hospitals with lengthening waiting lists and trolleys in corridors, and of course the existential threat posed by climate change. This week, headlines have been dominated
representing the Government’s commitment to reducing waiting times for patients and improving access to hospital care.
In keeping with this commitment, significant funding of €420 million was allocated to the waiting list action plan for 2025, with €190 million for the HSE and €230 million … increase on the full year 2023 and reflects the continuing demands on our hospitals. With increased investment across the public hospital system and through the 2025 waiting list action plan, the Department of Health, the HSE and the NTPF are taking the next steps in progressing the multi
Saturday, that is 900 out of a total of 2,700. However, hospitals are still conducting fewer scopes than they were in 2019 when all services were provided between Monday and Friday. Waiting lists did not reduce during 2024 but they have reduced this year.
The system … Friday. How is the Minister ensuring that hospitals are preventing the misuse of public funds and controlling spending and waiting lists initiatives? What is the breakdown of weekend hospital activity between the new public consulting contract and the fee paying service clinics? What action does Minister intend
promises from Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil, which have not tackled any of the waiting lists. I heard the Minister for Health conducted a spot-check in the emergency room in University Hospital Limerick recently. I would like her to do the same in Cavan and Monaghan … needs to be done. I am giving the Minister a solution to the problem - put the proper equipment into Monaghan hospital and that will reduce waiting lists. This is needed in Monaghan for the restoration in full of each service taken away by Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael
