being fulfilled and that they were not being supported by the Government. The farmers were there complaining about the fuel costs, and rightly so. They are understandably getting their package today. However, we need to deal with other issues we hear about in rural Ireland in relation … level and through their local corporation. It has been promised for years that we would review it. There was a Bill before the House today. I hope that the Government will see the error of its ways and provide that structure for democracy and for the people

barriers from Trump, but the existing barriers. We need to know that they can support their workers with the public services and housing that they would expect.
During the Brexit crisis there was great analysis across the Civil Service in terms of preparedness for the economic impact … mask to once again pursue austerity measures. It is sinister to see that potentially emerging in recent days in the context of employment rights and other issues. This seems to be an attempt not to waste a good crisis. That cannot happen. We must hold strong, uphold
note with me in his description of local authority and local government, the spending of money and the delivery for constituents. He was right; we need to do something to adjust the balance in favour of the people we represent.
I also listened to another contribution … their bills to a later date? How many are living in fear because they think someone is going to come to take their house or cause them difficulties simply because they do not understand their circumstances? The Revenue Commissioners have offices in Kilkenny, Waterford and many other localities
concerned. We will do it in a green way. That is what we have to do. We have got to get the balance right.
I emphasise that a key part of ensuring AI is widely adopted in the economy and in society more broadly is building public trust … ourselves and to understand what technology transition means. The choices made by people, government, businesses, researchers, workers and the elected representatives in this House will determine its future. We are all responsible for AI. I will ask my Department to try to bring the CeADAR scheme, which
thank Aontú for this timely motion. I also acknowledge and thank other Members of the House for coming on this journey with me. I have been at this for two years, as the Minister is well aware. It is very unusual that everybody in the Opposition … that Brian O'Reilly's correspondence with her was completely separate. The cover letter states it is a protected disclosure in its own right. The confidentiality attached to this letter was completely breached by the Minister, Deputy McEntee. There is nothing in section 16 of the Protected Disclosures
Quite a number of issues have been raised. Deputy Ó Murchú started with housing, Uisce Éireann and the medical device sector. In the past week, I have spoken to a number of CEOs in the medical device sector as well as in the pharmaceutical sector about the challenges … Connor has raised with me, is a planning issue. This is something we need to look at collectively. People have a constitutional right to sell their land. On the other hand, it should be a function of planning as to what goes where in terms of various activities
foundation of our State. It is what I think most of us, if not every single person who has been elected to this House, believes in. We are sitting in this Chamber because of the sacrifices so many people made in the pursuit of a united Ireland. That … that we would we welcome them to this country and that we could provide a state that would function. What we can do right now - I think that is what the Tánaiste's contribution and these statements have commenced - is to talk to the people of this State
more widely available;
notes that:
— households, workers, students, pensioners and families continue to face significant cost of living pressures, with rising costs across housing, energy, childcare and everyday essentials;
— the Government has chosen to increase the cost of public transport for those who rely … transport must work for everyone, regardless of disability, age or where they live. Accessibility is not an optional extra; it is a basic right
know from the data we are seeing that there is an increasing demand for primary places in special education. It is only right and prudent that we plan effectively now for when those people decide they are finished with secondary education and want to enter the workforce … government, because it needs to be a whole-of-government approach. I look forward to the progression of this Bill through the House
five or six times on the phone. Subsequently, I was sent a series of documentation, which I reviewed like many others in the House did.
Only a couple of weeks ago, some 12 years later and now a Member of Dáil Éireann, I met Lucia again. What struck … wronged by the criminal justice system, and they are forced to use the only means by which they think they can vindicate the rights of the victim through bringing their action to court, it is incumbent on the State to review and consider how we can respond
Private Members' Bill on electricity regulation. The Deputy mentioned it in his remarks, but I congratulate him on his first Bill in the House. Unfortunately, having given those congratulations, the Government proposes, as has been indicated, to reject the motion as we are satisfied that the CRU does … close to meeting our first carbon budget, and a reduction in emissions of between 13% and 25% by 2030. The work remains ongoing right across government to implement climate mitigation measures.
Ireland is at the forefront of transitioning to an electricity system dominated by variable renewable energy sources
country before it woke up and then when it woke up, it did not go about it in the right way. The right way is always at the pump. If money is taken off at the pump, it goes back into the wallet or purse of the mother … they should not. They would, of course. It is only a fool that would not. I refer to putting solar panels on their houses but there is only a grant of €1,800 - a measly, dirty little grant when all the rest of Europe is giving
Bill that is being used to smuggle in something much more sinister. That is what is happening with the Bill. If I am right about that, it proves the Government absolutely cannot be trusted with Irish neutrality, cannot be trusted not to engage in war profiteering and, even … quote Éamon de Valera but I am going to quote something he did favourably. It may be of interest to people in this House and the wider public to know that possibly the first ever instance of this State sanctioning another state for war crimes was initiated
footbridge. There must have been 150 people in attendance. The footbridge was going to be erected from an open space in a quiet housing estate over the N3 dual carriageway to a service station in an industrial area. No one asked for this. There was no demonstrable need … have to respect it." Do not get me wrong. I am not saying that just because people oppose something, it is not the right thing. I am saying local communities and councillors who know their areas are being sidelined by the likes of this Bill, which is giving
school tie. Other items such as polo shirts, trousers or shoes could be bought at any shop if they were the right colour. This allowed multiple retail options and allowed parents to shop around for the best value, or even to shop second-hand sometimes. That option … uniform on the child's back and then the banks have the cheek to come and chase them for their house.
Given that the 2017 circular was completely ineffective in addressing this cost of uniform,s it is clear that this Bill is needed to promptly address this
propose to accept it. The purpose of this amendment appears to be to require the Minister to lay a report before both Houses of the Oireachtas, setting out particular relevant statistical information relating to applicants for international protection where the question of the risk of absconding is assessed … their duties under this part of the Bill.
Where an applicant is detained under amendment No. 109, amendment No. 111 provides for the rights of the applicant and ensures they are able to avail of effective legal protections under this Bill, including access to legal assistance and legal
parent wants to see their child, no matter how young or old, in their school uniform. I think of my own grandmother's house. There are pictures of all of her children and grandchildren on her wall. Apart from only a few, nearly every picture shows each child … could also ensure that home economics students get the same ingredients support that exists for woodwork and metalwork. Education should be a right, not a burden. The Labour Party's proposals are constantly practical, costed and achievable.

debate. Fianna Fáil put forward a manifesto, which I supported. It included a requirement that the defamation Bill that was going through the Houses of the Oireachtas be enacted. There was then a debate between different parties about the formation of Government. A programme for Government was agreed … defendant, what the likely outcome of a jury is. I have great respect for juries and they generally, in my assessment, get it right, but jurors' predictions and outcomes are very hard to advise on. That has an impact on people being sued and on insurance companies covering
transferred away from EU member states to EU institutions, Protocol No. 21 was an important protection for Irish interests in protecting the right of the Irish people to make decisions in the areas of freedom, justice and security. Not only should we be holding on to the sovereignty … under Article 4 or left open the consideration, we could have adopted and moved forward at a pace that would ensure that the Houses of the Oireachtas could do their job, which is to scrutinise these measures properly. Instead, we have another proposal, another short deadline
poverty, or living in real deprivation. How is it that those families are living through an appalling paradox of plenty in a housing and cost-of-living crisis and a Government that has a target for children in poverty? No Government should ever have a target for children … want to expand.
The mark of a country is the dignity with which our most vulnerable are treated within our health system. Right now there are far too many people languishing for hours on end on trolleys
town centres, residential areas and around schools and places of public assembly. I had the pleasure of hosting Love 30 here in Leinster House for an audiovisual room briefing on the campaign, alongside other organisations including the Dublin Commuter Coalition, Irish Doctors for the Environment, Cycling Ireland … piece but the provision around multi-offence incidents which were introduced in the Road Traffic Act 2024 is also a move in the right direction, as is the provision concerning careless driving which as the explanatory note to the Bill states arose from the report on the tragic
apologise for being late but this debate came much earlier than any of us expected. I welcome the opportunity to speak to this House on the motion concerning insurance in the context of cost of living. This is an issue of immediate and real relevance to Irish households … this Government is engaged with the industry and the Central Bank to gather the relevant data to ensure we make the right decisions. I say quite openly that if Sinn Féin has material that would help in this regard, I am all ears. Deputy Doherty is aware
considered and to go through the assessment process for reimbursement following EMA approval. I am sure that all of us in this House, including the Minister, agree that the process needs to be reformed. Our health spokesperson, Deputy Marie Sherlock, wrote to the Minister more than a year … relating to it and are aware of what needs to be done. She will have our support if we are moving in the right direction. I hope that we do so. I hope that we can get the 180 days. I hope that people, especially children, with rare
people to pay €800 for a flight home from an active war zone before they board the flight. That is really quite horrifying right now. This is not just a consular crisis; this is a war zone suffering active bombardment. The Minister compared it to the Covid response … been to chip away at it for years. What the Government is trying to do with this defence legislation passing through the Houses at the moment is put the final nail in the coffin of our neutrality by removing the triple lock. The triple lock was the reason

This is a significant finding and the human rights Vice President of the Commission has said that she will communicate this clearly to Israel. We are moving the dial. There must now be concrete … with partners in the Middle East as we pursue this objective. I look forward to the continued co-operation of Members across this House in this pursuit and thank them for their contributions to this important debate this afternoon
