First, it provides for an extension of the temporary excise rate reductions on auto fuels and marked gas oil, MGO, otherwise known as green diesel, and introduces a revised schedule for the unwinding of these temporary measures. Second, it defers the 14 October carbon tax rate increases … inclusive basis by 30 cent per litre for auto diesel, 25 cent per litre for petrol and 5.4 cent per litre of green diesel until the last day of February 2027. This financial resolution also introduces a revised schedule for the unwinding of these temporary measures

voted against the carbon tax a good few years ago. When white diesel, inclusive of VAT and taxes was at €1.70, green diesel was at 95 cent and kerosene was at 95 cent, one would think that the need for carbon tax was then gone to discourage people … from using fuels such as green diesel, white diesel and kerosene. The Government is persisting with it notwithstanding the way it has increased. Let us consider white diesel at €1.70. Carbon tax is included in that and was covering all the schemes that the Government said
this year. Farmers will still be driving tractors on 1 January and the failure of the Government to cut the carbon tax on green diesel will penalise and tax the work farmers and farm contractors do because they have no alternative but to use tractors, machinery and green … diesel. Not only has the Government not provided supports in relation to green diesel in 2027, but it will increase the cost of green diesel on 1 January with the reintroduction of the NORA levy.
The proposed measures around succession partnerships will do very little for generational renewal
very unfair that this cohort of people is not being rewarded because these people are working.
There is nothing for the green diesel. I have been raising this since we came back with regard to the construction sector. It has been left out completely.
The Taoiseach, Deputy Micheál … small machines and every kind of machine you could think of, including cranes, dumpers, rollers, diggers and everything else, their machines are guzzling green diesel. Its price was a constant 94 cent a litre in the year from 2025 up to the end of January 2026. Today
Government would have their backs and reduce further the prices of petrol and diesel, as well as those of home heating oil and green diesel, but it refuses because it simply does not get it.
For hundreds of thousands of people, driving is not optional. Delaying planned increases … have cut the price of diesel and petrol by 10 cent. He should have supported our farming community by reducing the price of green diesel by the maximum amount, another 17 cent. His Department has acknowledged time and again that reductions in fuel prices help reduce inflation because
diesel first. There are pumps today, as I stand here and the Minister sits there, that are showing €2.20 for a litre of diesel. When it was less than that, the Government was forced to take action. Now it seems to think that it is okay for people … that the same Government stood over an increase in public transport fares in recent times. You really could not make it up.
On green diesel, again, farmers need more support. We have called for a 17 cent reduction on a litre of green diesel. We also called
installation aid establishment payment of €10,000 per farmer.
Irish farmers are feeling the effects of the fuel crisis, with the price of green diesel skyrocketing. The Minister should do what we called for in our alternative budget, which was to reduce the price of green diesel
have to rise again to ask about assistance for the construction and civil engineering sector and the cost of green diesel. I raised this two weeks ago with the Minister for Transport, Deputy Darragh O'Brien. He said the scheme was being worked on but that … construction and civil engineering companies, and even small sole traders, are struggling owing to the savage increase in the cost of green diesel. These contractors and operators are involved in building houses and roads, sewerage and water schemes, industrial units and factories, and in energy projects involving wind
Government’s proposals, which instead benefit the highest earners. We called on the Government to do more on the price of fuel, diesel, green diesel and home heating oil. Instead, however, there are piecemeal approaches from the Government.
We also proposed an energy credit of €400.

Government plans to increase the cost of home heating oil again by reintroducing the NORA levy, increasing the cost of petrol, diesel and green diesel and putting more pressure on workers and families across the State. The reduction of €43 in home heating oil will only last
machinery. Will he tell me where I will get a 1,000 horsepower harvester that will cut silage but does not use diesel? Will he tell me where I will get a triple mower that will mow the grass? Will he tell me where I will … tractor to put in front of a fusion baler and do the work that has be done in three weeks without burning green diesel? Will he tell me about culture then? Will he tell me that they have some alternative? The Minister is from an area where they
farm contractors of Ireland issued a very strong statement tonight. The Government has done nothing for them or for the farmers. The green diesel is a shocking price today. It was 90 cent, roughly, before Christmas last year … regressive. It is not a policy and I hope it will not be a policy. It should be got rid of. The Greens are well gone out of Government at last.
Mar fhocal scoir, I also brought forward a motion, along with my rural Independent colleagues
available to all those who would be entitled to it, if it were not for this clause that is preventing that. Action on green diesel for construction vehicles was promised back in May by the Taoiseach and Tánaiste but nothing has been done since. Words do not mean
gone up from somewhere between €700 and €800 last year.
Day after day, we are begging the Government to do something on green diesel for the construction sector. The Taoiseach promised it last May. The Tánaiste promised it as well. The Minister, Deputy Heydon, said the Government
week, the same meagre offering it made to our pensioners.
Our farmers, the closest thing we have to heavy industry, got nothing on green diesel or rebate allocation in 2027, which is €61 million down on the current expenditure. Are we to trust the Government to protect
million in much-needed support in farmers' pockets in response to the significant rise in the cost of critical inputs, such as green diesel and fertiliser. This will come through an extension of the fuel income support scheme for a further five months and €46.1 million to provide
today, we are going suspend this and that. The Government is trying to take the pressure off itself.
I will touch on green diesel. Last year, it cost 90 cent per litre. I filled one of our tractors the other day. It cost me €436 to fill
have to honour those commitments and they are losing their shirts on them. The types of vehicles I mentioned for construction are guzzling green diesel and the price has gone up. The construction and all those things will not carry on. Last year, the average was 94 cent
original scheme. Obviously, that did not transpire.
These operators have the same costs. They face the same increases in the price of green diesel that people in the agricultural sector have, and many of them are small one- or two-machine-operated businesses. With the upcoming budget
ghost from the Green Party that existed in the previous Government. The Minister of State will remember well what happened to the Green Party. It was eviscerated in the most recent election because it refused to listen to the people in relation to carbon tax. The Government said … County Meath for the last 15 years. Most people in Meath would give their right arm not to have to drive petrol or diesel cars to Dublin on a daily basis but instead get into a train to do so. The fact of the matter is that most
prices. Are their lives today any different from their lives yesterday because of this budget? Is the price of petrol, diesel or agricultural diesel lower? Is the price of electricity lower today than it was yesterday? It is not. Incredibly, the Government has completely ignored the biggest burning … democratically, morally and constitutionally responsible for representing? Is it the EU? Does he represent the NGOs? Is he representing the ghost of the Green Party, which still seems to haunt Government policy on these issues two years after it was decimated? The Minister of State is democratically, legally
battery electric carriages sitting in Inchicore awaiting safety clearance are earmarked for the northern commuter line. Our area must wait for the older diesel carriages to be cascaded down so the train lengths can be increased marginally. Of course, that is a temporary solution. It will not address … vision extended beyond a single budget cycle. We need a serious national investment programme focused on offshore wind, grid expansion, interconnectors, battery storage, green hydrogen and wave and tidal energy. This is not going to be cheap. Grid upgrades alone could require between €10 billion and €20 billion
