Budget Statement 2027
Ged Nash 6 Oct 2026
that we can decide, as our socialist colleagues in Portugal have done, to go it alone and slap a windfall tax on the excess profits of energy companies but the Government is letting them off the hook. The template is there. We did it the last time
Budget Statement 2027
Cian O'Callaghan 6 Oct 2026
Last week, the Government voted down the Social Democrats' proposal that would have paid for these measures, namely, a windfall tax on the excess profits of energy companies that are enjoying a bonanza as energy prices rocket. These bumper profits for energy companies are being made
Financial Resolution No. 8: General (Resumed)
Pa Daly 7 Oct 2026
comes to energy, we are paying the highest prices in Europe, enduring years of increasing bills while the energy companies have posted enormous profits. Another budget and another year of the same with no real plan to tackle the energy rip-off. The Government boasts about a package … volatile gas markets. The Government did have choices in this budget. It could have reintroduced energy credits, imposed a windfall tax on excess energy profits, forced data centres to pay their fair share for the enormous strain they are placing on the grid, or accelerated renewable energy delivery
Budget Statement 2027
Pearse Doherty 6 Oct 2026
return the energy credits and to give households €400 off their energy bills. It refused. We called on it to tackle the excessive standing charges. There has been no action. We called on the Government to ensure that data centres pay their fair share of network costs … pick up that tab. Again, there has been no action. While workers and families struggle, there is no windfall tax on the enormous profits being made by energy companies ripping their customers off over and over again, and that shows the priorities of this Government
