Lahardane with hundreds of homes. There is to be a site there for a specific building for a community centre. You could not swing a cat in it, no disrespect. What we want is a proper community centre delivered for the people of Ballyvolane, for the existing residents

laboratories, technology rooms, home economics rooms, multimedia suites, mainstream classrooms, special education tuition rooms and special education classrooms. The impact of this will be felt in communities right across the country. This includes more than 80 school building projects, approximately 57 completed special schools delivering more than
where they were reared. An entire generation is locked out of home ownership, stuck in childhood bedrooms or overpriced rentals or forced to emigrate. There is no strategy to address the demographic crisis affecting rural communities.
This Bill is not in and of itself objectionable. The measures … Bill, but let us be honest, they will not move the dial on housing delivery and they certainly will not deliver the affordable homes that workers and families so badly need. This Bill will not solve the housing crisis and the Government knows it. What we have
local authorities in counties Wicklow, Sligo and Kildare, where these 500 social homes were going to be developed with works ready to begin on site, have to figure out ways to deliver these projects - direct build is the obvious choice and what should be done - but they also … public sector's capacity to deliver housing. We need a step change. We need to do what we do in health and education and have the State provide public housing through building and financing, particularly through the homes for Ireland State savings scheme, which I have mentioned. Such
previous one significantly funded community, cultural and sports places. There has been record funding for all those areas and we will continue to do that but the way to provide cultural spaces is not by way of a levy on developers building apartments who end up pushing that … purchasers and driving up the price of apartments. That is not the way to deliver cultural spaces. When I am doing this, I am thinking of those people who need homes to live in. Nobody can live in high-spec, high-design apartments that never leave the blueprints
supports the highest quality care for our older population.
This investment includes the community nursing unit programme, which was launched to ensure that up to 90 of our public community nursing units and community hospitals would be refurbished or replaced to ensure the best quality environments … budget 2025 to staff and open an additional 615 community beds this year in capital projects coming to fruition through this capital programme. The 2025 programme for Government also committed to build more public nursing home beds. The Department of Health, alongside the HSE, is developing
role the GPO has played since 1818 in delivering postal services, and its historical significance as an early home for the predecessor of RTÉ, 2RN;
recognises the enduring role of the GPO as a hub of communication, connecting communities across the country;
further notes:
— that the Government … help build delivery momentum across priority projects;
— that the NDP 2021-2030, published in 2021, included the GPO redevelopment and clearly sets out the intentions relating to the GPO that the building will remain in public ownership, and the rich cultural heritage of the building will be preserved
more money. It was about speculators making profit. Just to let people know, that site has been burned down numerous times and the building has been destroyed. I think of the people who live around it. I think of the consequences for firefighters and first responders who have … extension. We want homes built and we want delivery. What we do not want is further speculation and what we cannot allow is that potential homes are not built. To have uncommenced planning permissions is costly and a huge barrier to delivering homes that people desperately need
communities; this is far from that. Public engagement will still be protected but we cannot allow a system where national housing targets are frustrated by a minority who can delay and derail vital developments with no accountability. If we want to meet Housing for All targets and deliver … developers and, most importantly, young couples and families who are desperate to find a home, I know the call is consistent. We need clarity, consistency and speed. This Bill is a step towards delivering all three. Our planning system must be a facilitator of housing rather than
longer rely on private companies to deliver care. The current service providers are only motivated by profit, which is evident in the constant cost-cutting measures that are used. We need serious investment into the creation of public nursing homes with community beds.
I support this motion … been locked out of home ownership and forced to emigrate. We need to ensure that we have enough residential homes to cater for our ageing population and that these homes are well-staffed, comfortable and safe.
I also highlight the fact that residential homes are not covered under
transformation under way with the establishment of the six new health regions. These regional structures aim to deliver more integrated care closer to home and tailored to local needs, a key ambition of Sláintecare.
The Bill reflects the values of the Government more widely and of Fianna Fáil … also complements the work of the productivity and savings task force, which is delivering efficiencies across the system. Last year alone, and as the Minister alluded to, €251 million in savings were delivered. A further €382 million is targeted this year. These are not abstract numbers; they translate
from planning. We have introduced and passed a new national planning framework so we will have enough zoned land to build the homes we need. Next week, the Deputy will see a major capital plan that we have all been working tirelessly on for a number of months … record levels of investment in key infrastructural areas like water, energy, housing and also the social infrastructure that is needed in our communities. We have established a national education therapy service for the first time in the history of our State to put therapists in our special schools
development of the statutory home care scheme in the 2025 Programme for Government, and the first element in delivering this is the Health (Amendment) (Licensing of Professional Home Support Providers) Bill 2024, which will establish a licensing framework for professional home support services and provide for regulation … immediate focus on delivering the highest quality of care to the residents of nursing homes in Ireland. Responsibility for the safety and care of residents ultimately rests with the individual provider of each nursing home and its staff. The governance and management of nursing homes is a critical
delivering homes.
On that, I quote the Government's own policy, Housing for All, which I looked up earlier today. Section 5.2 relates to the aim to support sustainable communities. What does this mean? The policy sets it out as:
The creation of sustainable communities has been … homes.
In a very significant paragraph the RIAI further stated:
The RIAI agrees that action is urgently needed to accelerate housing delivery; however, there are other ways of addressing this. In Dublin, land prices are one of the single biggest contributors to the high cost of building homes
years on trying to build sustainable, long-term communities and long-term apartment living. These apartments are not going to be long-term homes for people. It will make apartment living much more transient. It will push people further out of our urban core.
The unintended consequences … also concerned about the provision of community or cultural space, particularly in respect of the 5% provision that was brought in as part of Dublin City Council's 2022 to 2028 development plan. This was a hard-won provision to deliver more space for artists and community groups
remember the faces, the voices, and the energy of that campaign, the posters in windows, the queues at airports as people flew home to vote, and the conversations on doorsteps and around kitchen tables. It was a national movement built on empathy and driven by a belief … work together to better the lives of LGBTQI+ people. This whole-of-government strategy seeks to build on the successes and the achievements of the inaugural strategies and deliver on the key actions to address the continuing challenges LGBTQI+ people face. The strategy has been shaped by reflections
Bank. It is clear that Israeli authorities are taking measures designed to bring about the displacement of Palestinian communities. I am deeply concerned about the mass demolition of homes, buildings and infrastructure in camps across the West Bank. It marks the erosion of Palestinian life.
Against this backdrop … level, last week the Government approved the general scheme of the Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territory Bill. The scheme delivers on the commitment in the programme for Government to progress legislation prohibiting the import of goods from the settlements in the occupied Palestinian territory, following
historic heart of a communications network connecting communities across the nation; and
— the consistent, widespread and negligent destruction of Ireland's republican revolutionary history presided over by successive Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael Governments;
expresses:
— dismay at the failure to deliver the promised 1916 Commemorative Centre … delete, delete, delete. Frascati House, home of Edward FitzGerald was demolished for a shopping centre in 1983. Nos. 124 and 125 Stephen's Green West, home of Robert Emmet, was demolished for an office block in the 1980s. No. 40 Herbert Park, home of The O'Rahilly
location. It is in rapid need of improved community service. This will help with that. It will reinforce the shift towards better-managed community care with clear leadership and planning. Ultimately, that is what we need.
The Bill also clarifies and strengthens the responsibility of the HSE board … auditor. There might be financial controls in place but they are not always the best controls. Indeed, the service is not always delivered in the best way possible. However, this Bill gives the Minister for Health a more hands-on approach and a possibility of ensuring those jobs
apartment scheme standards, turnkey developments will not be excluded. Turnkey is the mechanism through which the overwhelming majority of social and affordable homes are currently delivered.
We are now going to have a two-tier sector in public housing with some people living in better quality, better designed … course is had Hines stuck to the original city development plan, it would have had the permission and would be on-site building good quality apartments today.
I was on site recently, at my request, to view Hines's new planning application. The developer made the point that
take place regarding the current criteria and eligibility for potential projects under the community safety innovation fund. Sinn Féin has long advocated for the reinvestment of the proceeds of crime back into the communities most affected by crimes. In fact, my party colleague Deputy Aengus Ó Snodaigh first … Deputy Ruairí Ó Murchú and I introduced the Proceeds of Crime (Investment in Disadvantaged Communities) (Amendment) Bill 2021. This would have seen the proceeds of crime reinvested into communities to build resilience through our drug task forces, family resource centres, youth diversion projects, unemployment services, sports clubs
very difficult decisions that families make to put a loved one into a nursing home. It is an admission that the needs are too great and the capacity in the home or the community is too small. As one woman said to me, for many families, it feels … sector that saw 26 nursing homes close between 2020 and 2023, the vast majority of them with fewer than 40 beds, while the growth is now in nursing homes with 100 beds or more. Of the 16 nursing homes under construction in 2023, nine had 100 beds
activities of criminals operating in Ireland.
When I get the opportunity, as I have had in the past, to meet justice ministers and home affairs ministers from other European countries, one of the things they wish to talk about is the proceeds of crime legislation that was introduced … benefit of all citizens.
CAB's successes are actively reflected in the reinvestment of the proceeds of crime into the community. The community safety fund is a tangible example of how this works in practice, ensuring money taken from criminal networks is reinvested in local projects that improve
