Chaith níos mó ná 12,000 duine de 75 bliain d’aois nó níos mó breis agus 24 uair an chloig i rannóga éigeandála inár n-ospidéil. Is iad seo ár dtuismitheoirí agus seantuismitheoirí, agus is daoine iad atá tinn, scanraithe agus traochta. Cá bhfuil an dínit? Cá bhfuil an meas? Níl sé seo ceart ar chor ar bith. Tá sé cruálach. Tá srianta earcaíochta ag cur cosc ar choinní riachtanacha agus ag cur othair i mbaol, fad is …
Is the Minister going to immediately fund and empower health regions to fill urgent posts, clinically prioritise vacancies and remove the barriers blocking recruitment? Will she ensure that permanent offers are issued to newly qualified nurses and midwives where the vacancies exist? What additional staffed hospital beds and rehabilitation places will she open? These are our parents and grandparents. They deserve dign…
I listened to the Minister's response. While listening to her, I was trying to think about me as the son or daughter of one of those elderly patients - one of the 12,106 people over the age of 75 who have their dignity stripped away from them because of what is happening. They are forced to wait in accident and emergency departments for over 24 hours while sick, worried and concerned. What the Minister has said today…
Hospitals that were asked to do so have identified priority posts and they are not being allowed to fill them. In my time in politics, we have never seen senior management-----
-----sit down with politicians and say I have to speak out because I am worried about the safety of my patients.
What I hear from the Minister-----
-----is that everything is okay and it is far from it, I am sorry to tell the Minister.
Do not wave your finger at me when I am speaking on behalf of patients.
I am speaking on behalf of people in my constituency who are worried and I will take no lectures from people on the Government side telling me to sit down. The Leas-Cheann Comhairle will do his job and only the Leas-Cheann Comhairle.
It is disgraceful when I am raising a very serious matter and the Minister knows that, in fairness to her.
We can all agree that the days and nights are getting colder. People are turning on their heating earlier and are keeping it on for longer to keep their houses warm. Many cannot afford it. One in four households cannot afford their gas bills. More than 320,000 households cannot pay their electricity bills. Families waited desperately for the Government to provide help in the budget but that help never came. There wer…
On behalf of Sinn Féin, I welcome today's State apology to the family of Brian Stack. I offer my sincere sympathies to his wife Sheila and their sons Austin, Kieran and Oliver. The shooting of Brian Stack was wrong. It should never have happened. His family suffered a terrible loss. The failures in the investigations compounded that suffering and left them seeking answers over many decades. We cannot presume to under…
Dúirt an Rialtas gur cháinaisnéis d’oibrithe a bhí ann, ach is a mhalairt atá fíor. Anuraidh, ní bhfuair oibrithe rud ar bith as an cháinaisnéis agus, i mbliana, níor thug an Rialtas ach na grabhóga ón tábla do chuid mhór d'oibrithe na tíre seo. Ní bhfuair an chuid is mó d’oibrithe ach laghdú cánach ar fiú €4 in aghaidh na seachtaine é agus géarchéim chostas maireachtála ar siúl. Dúirt mé go bhféadfainn hachoimre a d…
Hear, hear.
I move:
That Dáil Éireann:
notes that:
— approximately 700,000 households across the State depend on home heating oil to keep their homes warm, with many families facing unprecedented financial pressure as winter approaches; and
— the cost of filling a home heating oil tank has increased by more than €700 since the beginning of 2026;
further notes that:
— in the hours after the Budget was announced, wholesale h…
Gabhaim buíochas le achan duine a labhair ar son an rúin seo inniu. Mar a dúirt daoine, is é seo an naoú huair a bhfuil rún mar seo tugtha ós comhair na Dála ag Sinn Féin. Dúirt muid le go leor leor daoine amuigh ansin go mbeadh muid ansin gualainn le gualainn leo agus ag iarraidh ar an Rialtas an brú ollmhór a thuiscint atá ar teaghlaigh agus ar oibrithe fud fad na tíre seo, go háirithe agus iad ag iarraidh a gcuid …
Inniu, beidh altraí agus mná glúine taobh amuigh dá gcuid ospidéil fud fad an Stáit ag agóid, ag lorg pá cothrom. Níl an dara rogha ag oibrithe san earnáil phoiblí ach dul ar stailc de bharr an Rialtais. Ag an am céanna, tá an Taoiseach ag rá go bhfuil fonn orthu dul ar stailc. Is mór an drochmheas é sin. An ndéanfaidh an Rialtas beart anois leis na stailceanna seo a stopadh, nó an leanfaidh sé ar aghaidh ag léiriú d…
With respect, Minister, €1.2 million will not go very far. Perhaps he needs to look at the numbers again.
I will get to the reality here. As we speak, nurses are leaving wards and going on strike on the picket line. That is happening under the Government's watch. Nurses do not want to leave wards. They want to care for their patients. Right across the public sector next week, we will see teachers, staff within this …
By God, when it comes to the poor nurse who is trying to keep up with her bills and pay her rent, he or she has to go to the picket line under this Government.
It is a disgrace.
What was delivered for workers was an insult. I ask the Government again-----
-----to enter meaningful negotiations and make it clear that the wages of our public sector workers in the cost-of-living crisis will be protected. That is their demand.
That is what Sinn Féin stands with. That is what the Government should be delivering.
The 700,000 families who rely on home heating oil to keep their homes warm feel completely abandoned by the Government. They have already seen price increases of more than €700 since the start of the year. Let me tell the Minister what is happening in the real world. This is the price list that companies that buy in oil for the Irish market were quoted last night. Home heating oil went up by €100 for a fill. This mor…
Answer the question. The price went up €100 last night.
