Business of Dáil

Before we commence business, I want to take this opportunity to welcome you all back to the Dáil today and I hope you have had an opportunity for some rest over the summer break. As we begin a new Dáil term and reflecting on developments over the past year, I want to emphasise our shared responsibility to ensure that Leinster House is a safe, respectful and professional workplace for everyone. Robust debate and political disagreement are essential to parliamentary democracy. They must, however, be conducted in a manner that respects the dignity, safety and well-being of all Members, all staff and all those who engage with the work of the Houses. Each of us has a part to play in upholding the standards expected of this institution and ensuring that any concerns are treated seriously and addressed appropriately. I look forward to working constructively with all Members during the year ahead.
